Is a Mezuzah good luck?

If you do an Internet search for “mezuzah folk tales”, you’ll find plenty of stories of terrible things happening to people whose mezuzot are somehow not kosher (either by design, or by some omission, or because the writing become damaged or obscured), and how a mezuzah is protective.

We like this meditation on the entire mezuzah-as-protective-amulet story:

That said, we at JewJu Box fall firmly in the “no” camp. There are plenty of reasons to hang a Mezuzah (you can read our blog about this here), but magical protection isn’t one of them. That’s one reason why we sell ours in good conscience with a photocopied scroll inside, rather than a kosher one. Get theme here: https://www.jewjubox.ca/shop/p/removable-mezuzah .  Of course, if having a kosher scroll inside is important to you for any reason, we have them available as well.
